~ Investing in Youth Today For a Brighter Tomorrow ~

Our Mission

To create a healthy environment for youth to become productive citizens.

Our Vision

The coalition along with other organizations, agencies, youth and individuals working together to prevent risky behavior through increased problem solving skill, education and community services.

Substance Abuse Prevention is...

...a proactive attempt to strengthen young people with research based activities that encourage good decision-making and eliminate high risk behaviors, which may include alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.

   Who Are We

          What We Know

The Pageland Youth Development Coalition was established to address risky behavior among our youth ages 11-17. We are focused on building the desire, resources and programs to promote healthy behaviors and environments for our kids. We are committed to helping our young people develop the proper  decision making skills needed to prevent risky behavior and the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

We are students, parents, teachers, law enforcement officers, business leaders, faith based organizations and people from allwalks of life working together to build a stronger future for
our community.

We know there is not one specific factor  that leads to unhealthy behaviors in our youth. We are a rural area with a diverse population statistically high with respect to poverty and unemployment. Almost half of our youth come from single parent households. Many of the youth in our area aren’t drug users, but the risks are ever present. Many have family members that use or approve of drug use. Some think doing drugs is normal and expected by their friends. One way or another they are exposed to risky behaviors which can lead to teen pregnancy, youth violence and a lack of commitment to school, family and community.

We know we can make a difference!!

   What We Can Do

  • Getting our youth involved in organized activities at school, church, recreation and in the community.

  • Empowering our youth with a clear vision of their future which does not include alcohol, tobacco and other drugs—a valuable asset in making right choices.

  • Increase community involvement in youth-oriented activities and prevention programs through public awareness.

  • Encourage family members to get more involved with school and other youth activities.

Our Goals:

Getting our youth involved in organized activities at school, church, recreational facilities and in the community.
Empowering our youth with a clear vision of their future which does not include alcohol, tobacco and other drugs - a valuable asset in making right choices.
